The country with all 4 seasons, is what comes to mind when you think of Japan?
Hi! How’s everyone doing today! It has been getting colder and colder these days. Don’t you just hate being lazy to go out just because of the cold?
Laziness aside, winter in Japan is absolutely beautiful.
Snow and illuminations in winter; the city turns pink in spring. Greenery everywhere in summer and beautiful autumn leaves during fall.
A small island country whre you can enjoy all 4 beautiful seasons without having to travel.
That is why I always look at the positive side of exploring the beauty of this country instead of letting the cold weather overwhelm me LOL.
So, lets look into the traditional Japanese town of Asakusa!
Noticable aspects of Asakusa!
Asakusa is popular amongst local and foreign tourists.
Recently, an onigiri restaurant, Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, was given Michelin stars.
Apart from the amazing food this place has to offer, Asakusa also holds on very tight to the traditions of temples and rikishas. Lets dig deeper into more treasures Asakusa holds.
The must go to spot of Japan, “Kaminarimon”
One of the most noticable spots in Asakusa is Kaminarimon!
Kaminarimon is also the entrance to the oldest temple in Tokyo, Senoso-ji. What most people do not know is that the actual name of the gate is Furaijinmon (Gate for Gods of Wind and Thunder). No wonder you see the statues of thunder and winds gods beside the massive lantern.
Taking a photo in front of the Kaminarimon is the basic way to start your Asakusa exploration.
But little do people know, Asakusa is much more beautiful in the nightitme.
The lanterns that brighten up Asakusa.
No doubt Asakusa is beautiful under the sunlight, but the lanterns at night are a complete game changer. You have to see Asakusa at night time if you happen to be there.
A street full of trees and tiny shops lead from Kaminarimon to Senso-ji.
Then decor of the trees change with the change in season.
The historic amusement park, “Asakusa Hanayashiki”
The land of nostalgia, that is what “Asakusa Hanayashiki” is.
It is said to be the oldest amusement park in Japan, with its 165th year anniversary coming up soon. Every ride and activity is a reflection to the old times.
You can feel the history and the memories embedded into the park.
Asakusa Hanayashiki also changes its looks at night with all the bright lights covering the park.
Also, depending on the rides, you can also see Japan’s tallest tower, “Skytree”! So look out for the Skytree when you are on the rides!
Paradise for chefs, “Kappabashi Dougugai”
Kappa has two meanings: raincoat, or a turtle-like mythological creature. Hashi/bashi means bridge.
There are two myths on how this area came to be known as Kappabashi:
1. Someone saw a countless number of raincoats drying on the bridge,
2. Kappa is said to have actually appeared.
I guess you can see Kappa if you are lucky…??
Kappabashi is a town of full of cooking tools and food industry related objects with over 170 shops spread around.
If you are into cooking, you will defintely find something interesting for yourself.
The “Sample Shops”
What attracts tourists the most is the food sample shops. All the real-like food samples you see outside restaurants mostly come from this area.
From sushi to spaghetti to beer pints, there is a big varieties of samples produiced here.
Some samples are turned into key-holders or watches; makes up for a unique Japanese souvenirs!!
All these photos of Japanese sweets are samples. The high quality of realness will definitely make you hungry.
Personally I haven’t tried it, but you can also make the samples by yourself.

The first time I took my parents around in Tokyo was Asakusa.
The reason I chose Asakusa was because of its popularity withiout knowing much about the area.
But now I think about it, and feel like I made the right choice.
That includes the beauty of the area, and the friendliness of the locals.
The old town of Asakusa is full of nice people. Plus the famous Kaminarimon and Senso-ji just add up to the greatness of Asakusa.
